Two-Year Certificate Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Fall 2009

Description: This program focuses solely on the practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  The PPP is a series of integrated seminars, clinical case conferences, individual case supervision , and personal therapy.  Faculty and supervisors are senior psychoanalytic psychotherapists or psychoanalysts, and members of the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center. All participants are required to treat a patient in twice weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy under supervision for at least twelve months. In addition they are to begin treating a second analytic patient under supervision for at least six months.  The program includes three 10-week trimesters each year, with two classes per trimester. Certificates are given when the above requirements have been completed.

Dates: September 2009 to May 2011, Tuesday evening weekly classes, 6:00-9:00

Continuing Education Units: 180 CME’s

Fee: Tuition is $2,100 per year. Supervision fees are negotiated privately with the supervisor.

Eligibility:  Open to mental health professionals from the disciplines of psychiatry, psychology, social work, counseling and psychiatric nursing.  All participants must be licensed in the state of Oregon and carry professional liability insurance.

A personal experience of a psychoanalytic treatment, through either twice weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy or “on-the-couch” psychoanalysis, is of enormous value to clinicians in promoting self-awareness and deepening learning.  Past or current treatment is a requirement for the program.

  • Educating mental health professionals – psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other mental health professionals – in the theory and practice of psychoanalysis and its many applications. These applications include the various psychotherapies, child and family development, and many other scientific, humanistic, and sociocultural disciplines important to contemporary life.
  • Enhancing the psychological growth and emotional well-being of the public through its community service and information programs, through consultation and collaboration projects with other organizations, and through providing direct services, including psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.

We hope you will consider attending some of our programs, and join OPC as a supporting member.
