OPC Member Recognition Party

Location:  Coopers Hall - 404 SE 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Please join OPC members and friends for wine and small bites, in a celebration of the year's accomplishments - and those who made them happen.

We are pleased to have Garrick Duckler join us to present his amazing short films, followed by a brief discussion with Cynthia Ellis Gray. “Presenting Problems” is a series of short films created by Garrick, an advanced candidate from San Francisco Psychoanalytic Center. The shorts are part of an ongoing series of psychoanalytically related films that present a variety of psychological “problems” suggestive of various clinical dilemmas. They do this with humor, an enigmatic simplicity and without illustrating any particular psychopathology or any particular psychoanalytic “lesson” or theory. The films have won several awards, have been translated into other languages, and reviewed in JAPA by NYT film critic David Sterritt.

Duckler is a former Reed College professor who received his Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago before going into the field of mental health. He is currently working on a longer film more explicitly about analysis and is intending to move his practice to Portland in the fall of 2017. Duckler is the director, writer, voice actor, illustrator and editor of all the films.

There is no charge for this program.
