INCREASE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF EARLY DEVELOPMENT
The Early Development
Program gives students the opportunity to observe and understand the earliest
experiences of emotional and psychological development in individual and
relational realms, and to cultivate emotional openness. The cornerstone
of this training is the Infant Observation (IO) seminar, a 15-month program
in which students observe a newborn infant for 12 months and participate
in twice monthly seminars. Infant observation, based on the Tavistock
model, is an important component of many psychoanalytic and psychodynamic
training programs around the world. Participants find the IO seminar to
be an effective and engaging way to learn experientially about the process
of observing and being an observer, which applies to a wide spectrum of
clinical activity.
In addition to the IO seminar, the EDP is currently developing programs
that will train clinicians to work with parents and their young children
around developing strong relationships as a foundation for emotional development.
Participation in the IO seminar will be a prerequisite for this and other
early development programs being created.
For detailed information about this program, please
consult the brochure and contact the Center via email at: info@oregonpsychoanalytic.org.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
This program is open to mental health and other interested professionals. Prospective participants will be interviewed by a EDP member prior to admission to determine suitability of the seminar for them.
STRUCTURE
The Infant Observation Program is a 15 month observation course, consisting of weekly observations of mother/parent and infant in the infant’s home. The observations begin just prior to the birth of the infant. Students also attend a twice-monthly seminar where they discuss their observations with a consultant and fellow students.
