The subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the Whitney Museum last year, Grant Wood (1891-1942) has recently emerged a s a particularly complex figure in twentieth-century American art. His endl essly parodied American Gothic (1930) is only the bes t known among a number of strange pictures by this talented and sometimes e motionally alienated Midwestern Regionalist. With the publication of her ne w monograph, Grant Wood's Secrets (University of Dela ware Press, 2019), art historian Sue Taylor joins psychiatrist and psychoan alyst, Kathryn Zerbe, to discuss fascinating but little known aspects of Wo od's life and art. This program is co-sponsored with the Oregon Psychoanal ytic Center.
