Course Description: In this course (1) we wil
l look at understanding unconscious obstacles and attitudes underpinning th
e emergence of and inadequate response to the global ecological crisis, pat
terns of over consuming, our own feelings and defenses including the theori
es of dissociation, self-states, and loss; and consider ways to work with c
limate change in clinical practice (2) we will explore the connection betw
een environmental exploitation and the economic priorities of carbon based
capitalism and white western culture, including racism/colonialism and impa
ct on people of color and (3) we will discuss ecological awareness and val
ues, ways to face the challenge of climate catastrophe, build hope and resi
lience, and the evocation of “creative white shame”.
Learning
Objectives: At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Develop a greater understanding of unconscious biase
s and obstacles in relationship to tackling the climate crisis.
- Dis
cuss ways to identify and work with our own range of feelings and defenses.
- Increase awareness of racial capitalism and relationship to a carb
on based, extractive economy.
- Explore ways to work with environment
