The Many Faces and Shades of Diversity
with Phyll Zuberi, MD & Sandra Krussel, DO

The 2 part course will focus on Diversity or the lack thereof in the therapeutic setting.  We will begin with diversity and its many forms and iterations at a cultural level and discuss the implications for the consulting room. We would like to explore the psychoanalytic literature looking at the question of diversity and privilege. Our goal is to try to develop an understanding of how this issue is so easy to avoid and so hard to talk about yet it's omnipresent and we ignore it at great peril.  In addition, enlarging the concept of diversity beyond race and gender is an important aspect of this course.

Learning Objectives: The participant will be able to
1. To look at diversity and its multiple manifestations and definitions.
2. Think about diversity and how it plays out in Transference and Countertransference.
3. Understand the links between diversity and identity formation as applied to the course participants.
